The changing notion of chimera states, a critical review

Abstract Chimera states, states of coexistence synchronous and asynchronous motion, have been a subject extensive research since they were first given name in 2004. Increased interest has lead to their discovery ever new settings, both theoretical experimental. Less well-discussed is the fact that successive results also broadened notion what actually constitutes chimera state. In this article, we critically examine how for different model types coupling schemes, as well varying implicit interpretations terms such coexistence, synchrony incoherence, influenced common understanding chimera.
